While my health is back to normal, my motivation is not. After a week of everyone being sick, our house is pretty much a disaster, and I just cannot make myself want to clean. I don't want to do dishes or laundry or vacuum or sweep and mop or ANYTHING. It all needs done though. All I want to do is lay on the couch playing words with friends and watching Greek on Netflix. Even though I spend half that show saying, "Wait. That's not what being in a sorority is like!" And then saying, "Okay, well maybe a little like that."
So. Anyone have something amazingly motivational to say to me? Because I REALLY need to get my butt in gear and get the house put back together.
P.S. For those of you who are stuck on that "want to clean" part up there, yes, I can make myself WANT to do that stuff most days. Even if I only want to do it so it's done.
I dont have any motivational words but I have a "trick" I use. When things are a total disaster and I am lacking all motivation, I make myself a to-do list and put a time goal beside each task. Then I get the kitchen timer and see if I can beat my goal. My mom used to time me when I was younger to see how fast I could pick up my toys or clean my room, etc. Sadly, I still use this tactic on myself at 27 years old. Pretty ridiculous but it at least gets me started and I usually find motivation to continue everything.
ReplyDeleteWrite what you need to get done on a piece of paper, close your eye, and see where your finger lands. Set the timer for 15 minutes and give yourself permission to sit your butt back on the couch after the timer goes off. You might decide not to sit down once you get going, but if you do then you don't have to feel bad because you already told yourself you could! Do this a few times a day for a few days if you have to, stuff will get done. I hate having to get motivated after being sick for that long.
ReplyDeleteeye, eyes... you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI generally lack motivation to clean on Mondays too. And Tuesdays, and Saturdays, and every other day for that matter.
ReplyDeleteI definitely use the timer trick - it works for the kids and works for me too. The BEST part of the trick is to time in GOOD things, too - as soon as I finish 15 miutes of cleaning, I get 15 minutes of reading! Scrapbooking! Blogging! Then it's only 15 more cleaning minutes til I get to relax again...
