And he's crawling

Will started crawling yesterday.  A few days after the family reunion of course, so nobody else got to see it.  He's doing the army crawl thing, which Kalena never did.  It's a little weird to see him crawling, because I still think of him as such a little baby.  He also sleeps through the night most nights (meaning 10 pm to 6 or 7 am.)  Not every night, but I suppose that's normal.

In other news, the new escape-proof pajamas are (so far) proving to be escape-proof.  I don't have to rush in the second I wake up in the morning, and I don't have to worry that getting her up after nap might necessitate an entire load of laundry and the use of clorox wipes.  Plus, they're cute!  I'm just hoping that if (when) Will goes through a nudist phase it will be at the same size.

Nice hat, don't you think?  She didn't want to take it off for the pictures.

Zipper in the back.  Why there are not more kids pjs with zippers in the back I don't know.  I suppose they'd be a pain if you were going to be changing diapers, but we're not.

If you have a clothing escape artist, these are the pajamas you need.

Sitting up on his own

I'm a little behind here, since I actually took this picture on the 9th.  Here's Will, sitting up by himself!

Other stuff coming soon.

Is it more or less a vacation if I don't take my computer?

We're leaving for vacation tomorrow.  I am leaving my computer at home.  Even though the house is supposed to have WiFi.  And since I don't have an iPhone (sadface) that means I'll be out of the internet world for 5 whole days!  Alright, we'll be home Sunday, so 4 1/2 days.  Think I can make it without hyperventilating?  Or, more importantly, can YOU live for 5 days without me posting pictures of my kids?!

Packing list

Here are the things I use for my kids every day:

clothes
diapers
pull-ups
wipes
bibs
boppy
sippy cups
bottles
baby food
monitors
bouncer
exersaucer
high chair
booster seat
pack-n-play
crib
stroller

How much of that do you think I can fit in the back of our Durango?  Vacation starts Wednesday.  Or maybe I'm moving to Utah, judging by the amount of stuff I have to take.

No Fighting, No Biting

Did you ever read No Fighting, No Biting?  Well, at church on Sunday Kalena had a run in with a child who apparently hasn't read this book.  That's right, somebody bit her.  (Now, let me say here that I don't blame the boy who did it (he's about 3) or his mom, who was actually in the room when it happened.)  I understand that these things happen, and I'm sure someday it will be Kalena, or Will, or some future child who is the biter.  Maybe he'll bite a sibling, or a friend, or me.  (Kalena has tried that a time or two, but I stopped her before she did any damage.)

BUT.  This was just about the most brutal bite mark you've every seen, so OF COURSE I had to take pictures for the blog.

Vicious huh?  Don't worry, it's mostly better now.

Brian's hair

Well, short hair won out on the poll.  Not by much, the "just long enough to get crazy" option was a close second.  "The longer the better" got just one single vote.  HOWEVER.  That single vote was Brian.  And since he doesn't base his life on the opinions of my blog readers (I know you're shocked) he's going with that.  For now anyway.  Last time he grew it out he got sick of it before it got too long.

I will MOST CERTAINLY be documenting the hair.  And for those of you who are wondering, "the longer the better" means something like this:

I'm using this picture because we were discussing his hair at the Jake Owen concert.  And that's Jake Owen.  I was actually going to take a picture of his hair today, but I can't find my camera.  I'm sure it's somewhere stupid, like sitting on the counter, and I just overlooked it.  So.  Pictures later.

Jake Owen picture from here.

More maneuvering

Remember when I posted this the other day?  WELL.  Apparently I spoke too soon about the shorts, she has now managed to get out of those multiple times.  Then the onesies got here.  Big fat FAIL on that front. I put her in one backward so the snaps wouldn't be visible to her (thought I was pretty clever there) and put her to bed.  When my dad got her out of bed the next morning she WAS still wearing the onesie, but nothing else.  She got her pull-up off from underneath the onesie.  So, now I have five new, white, toddler sized onesies that are no good to me for anything.  Awesome.

SO.  After toying with some other (probably not great) options, I remembered reading something about sleepers that kids couldn't get out of.  And a little google-ing led me to littlekeepersleeper.com.  I have two on order.  I really, REALLY hope these work.  We've had to quit making her wait for her "sun" to come up, because that inevitably leads to bed stripping and extra laundry.  Not only would I like to get that time back, I would like to enter her room without dreading what I'll find.  So cross your fingers for me, and I'll let you know how things go.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but I'm going to tell you a story too.

I can't resist posting pictures of this little fatty sometimes.

We bought some sunglasses for Kalena the other day and Brian was trying them on Will last night.  Apparently Will doesn't like sunglasses.  He let us know by holding his breath, scrambling to get them off, and then gasping for air when he finally did.  Guess he won't be wearing any sunglasses for awhile.  I'll try to get a video (for you Kari!)

P.S. Last day to vote on Brian's hair!

Why my grandma is mad at Brian

A little background.  My grandma pretty much lives on Diet Coke.  (Something like 60% of the human body is water.  In my grandma I think that 60% is Diet Coke.)  Anyway, she drinks it out of bottles because she can't finish a whole can at once.  Usually she'll drink about half, then stick the other half in the fridge for later.

SO.  She is mad at Brian because she is SURE that he took a drink out of her last Coke.  Her opened, half drunk Diet Coke.  She is convinced of this despite: A) the fact that Brian drinks soda from cans, not bottles, B) that Brian drinks a whole Coke when he has one, not a swig here and there, and C) that my mom, my dad, and Brian have all assured her that he did nothing of the sort.  She will not be swayed.

Alright grandma, you found him out.  Even though there's a fridge full of soda in the garage, Brian thought he'd just have a drink of the one you left open.  And then lie to you about it.  And have my parents lie to you about it.  Because that's just the kind of guy he is.

Ah, life around here is never boring.

I take it back

Just so you know, Kalena is back in the crib.  She only slept in the toddler bed while Amelia was here, and she was only good about it the first night.  In fact, by the last night she was asking to go to bed in the crib.  That's fine, although I don't know what we're going to do if she's still there when Will gets too big for the pack-n-play.

There is a problem with the crib though.  Kalena hates to be in a wet or dirty pull-up. And she learned how to take them off.  (She usually takes them off and puts them in the laundry.  She knows that's where dirty clothes go.  And that would be funnier if it weren't gross.)  Anyway, if she were in a toddler bed she could get up and TELL me she wanted her pull-up off.  But she won't STAY in a toddler bed.  So we have to deal with the pull-ups and the crib.  I ordered some toddler sized onesies off Amazon.  Until they get here I've resorted to putting her to bed in her jean shorts every night.  She can't get those off.

On a totally different topic, Will has developed a cough to go with his runny nose.  It doesn't seem bad; it just sounds like he has a tickle in his throat.  It DOES however, wake him up.  And since there is NOTHING you can give kids under two, I'm stuck.  So, lovely readers, do you have any tricks for a baby with a cough?

Denver trip

First of all, let me start by saying how disappointed I'm going to be if only 3 people vote on my poll.  Especially since I already know one of them was Brian!  Go vote.

So.  We got back from Denver yesterday.  Oh, you didn't know we were going to Denver?  Me neither!  Well, I had an idea, but it was sort of an on-again, off-again sort of a thing.  In the end we did go, and had some good times.  Even though Will got his first cold like the day we left and he is of the opinion that having his nose wiped is equivalent to TORTURE.  By the way, did you know that even before they can talk, babies can get that gravelly, I-have-a-cold voice?  I know this because Will has it.  It's kind of funny to hear him make his little baby noises in a gravelly voice.

ANYWAY.  Denver.  We stayed with my sister Kirsta so all the kids got to play together.  Will LOVES to have other babies around, so he was quite amused by Eli who is just 6 weeks older.  Eli's main idea of fun was to crawl up to Will and hit him in the face though, so Will had to be rescued rather frequently.  Kalena and Patrick had a good time, as always.

And now for the photos.  Will playing with Eli.  Alright, fine.  It's really just both of them playing with the activity center.  It's still cute!

On Saturday afternoon we all went to the Aquarium in Denver (except Kirsta, who had to work.)  My mom took a picture of the crew.  Do you like how Will is off to the side in the stroller?  We were on our way to the car, so I was too lazy to get him out of the stroller for a single picture.  Plus it was starting to rain so we were in a hurry.  And now I just sound like I'm making excuses.

Somehow I managed to not take ANY pictures of Kirsta.  Which is too bad, because I wanted one to post so I could point out her little pregnant belly and say: this is my sister Kirsta, who has a 2 1/2 year old, an 8 month old, and is due with her 3rd in December.  Because she is CRAZY.

Also, no pictures of Kalena and Will in their cute 4th of July outfits.  Holiday picture FAIL.  So.  How was your 4th of July weekend?

Before I forget

I told Brian I'd ask ya'll about his hair, so I put up a poll over there on the side.  In case you missed it, the crazy hair picture is here.
