Boy or girl?

I've noticed that when we go out, people assume that Kalena is a boy more often than they assume she is a girl. I would attribute this to the fact that lots of times we have her dressed in yellow or green or white, but it has happened when she's wearing pink too. This made me wonder a few things. The first is: do I just think this because I only notice when people are wrong? Secondly, if it isn't just me, and people really do assume boy more than girl, does this happen to every body (or every baby) or just me? Also, why do people assume she's a boy? Is it because Laura is right, and all babies look like little old men?

It doesn't bother me when people assume she's a boy. It does catch me off guard sometimes though. To me, she just looks like Kalena and sometimes I feel like that should be obvious to everyone. Oh well. What do you think?

  1. I think she's darling - people have asked me "What is it?" I guess the blue onesie and overalls didn't say enough.

  2. I think it's because, in Maori, "Kalena" means "manly" or "tough guy." Sorry I didn't tell you this earlier.

  3. Obviously it is because I am right!

  4. Maybe it's because she look EXACTLY like Brian! But people are always dumb about newborns. You only know what it is if it's yours.

  5. I agree with Kari, though Patrick looks EXACTLY like Joe and people have been known to call him a girl WHILE Joe is holding him. Hell-o! TWINS! It is a newborn thing, though - just make sure you don't get her a "pixie" cut when she's about 5 (haha, kari!)

  6. i could dress my girls is the pinkest, frilliest outfits, and people would still comment on what handsome boys they were. it was very frustrating, and i would even get a little fiesty about it when they assumed they were boys. maybe you should glue big fat pink bows on her head. that might help... :D
