Election Coverage

I don't get it. Alright, that's not entirely true. I understand the desire to check in and see what's going on. What I don't understand is feeling compelled to watch non-stop election coverage. Because really? You watching? Not going to change ANYTHING. Also? Not exciting.

In the 2004 election my roommates insisted we watch election coverage and NOTHING else. As if changing the channel for half an hour to watch a sitcom might change the outcome. Or maybe they thought all the votes from the last several states would magically come in and be counted in the next half hour even though the polls WERE STILL OPEN. I finally gave up trying to convince them otherwise and left. Then I laughed to myself when I turned on the TV the next morning and the election was STILL undecided. Good thing they watched all that coverage.

Anyway, it's election day so if you haven't already, GO VOTE. Watch election coverage or not. Sooner or later we'll find out who the next president will be.

  1. I agree. We watch about five minutes of it here and there. Not big tv people anyway. I just wait to hear everything. Sometimes not so safe because we have no idea what is going on in the world.

  2. Luckily when I went and voted today the lines were short so at least I didn't suffer too much by waiting for today! :)

  3. I remember them doing that! Man, how boring. Since Joe and I have crap for TV channels I'm SURE we don't get the all-day election coverage (unless they started covering it on the spanish channel), but I DID think about sneaking off to the gym to watch a little this evening - it's kinda like shaking the christmas presents before you open them! Not really a good indication of what you're going to get, but you just can't help it. Even if what you get is a stupid pair of underwear.

  4. Elsha you are so funny. I am one of those people that can't stop watching. I don't know what it is. It is like knowing that there is a huge piece of chocolate cake on the counter and it keeps calling my name. I can't turn it off!!!
