A few days ago things were normal. Nothing new to report, nothing particularly exciting going on. But now? Now Kalena has entered the "why" phase. Every single answer I give her is followed by: "But why? But why, mama?" It's been like 3 days and I am already SO over it. I don't even want to know how many times I've had to resort to saying, "Because I said so." I even end up saying it in situations where it doesn't make sense because at least then she's stops asking! Other than that, about the only thing that stops the questions is answering with, "I don't know, why do you think?"
So any helpful tips to make it through all the why-ing?
You got me. My two year old is in the why stage and I promised I would NEVER be the mom that said, "because I said so" but what else do you say to a two year old who won't understand your explanation anyways?
ReplyDeleteI feel like we'll enter that stage early because I already ask Amelia "why" sometimes. If she says she doesn't want to do something I ask her why? I'm setting myself up for the dittles ;)
ReplyDeleteIf you find one let me know! I've got two of them on my hands. With Charlotte we realized that she wasn't really asking the question and wanting to know an answer so now we don't answer her unless she really is asking with the intent to know the answer. Cooper only asks when he genuinely wants to know and he is way more curious about things than Charlotte. A simple answer is never enough!
ReplyDeleteThis phase is SO ANNOYING. But it passes, apparantly, because someone asked me when Patrick got over that phase and I said "oh my gosh! He DOESN'T do that anymore! When the heck did he quit? And thank goodness he did!" Maybe it quits when you are completely unhelpful for so long they realise it's not worth asking. Or maybe, like everything else, it just ends on its own.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean. After I try to explain all the whys, I end up saying "I don't know!" Then he stops. Usually. :)
