Feeling sappy

Y'all, it melts my heart to see how much Kalena loves this little guy.

Also, when did she get old enough to act goofy for a picture on purpose?!

No more Mr. Baby

As you probably already know, we have many nicknames for Will. Buster, Buster Brown, Mister Buster, just plain Mister, and the list goes on. My mom though, liked to call him Mister Baby.

While I was pregnant my sister Kari kept insisting that she needed to quit since there would be another baby around soon. But my mom kept saying that Will was always going to be Mister Baby to her. And for a while he was.

Then the other night when I put him to bed I said, "Goodnight Mister Baby." And Will grinned and said, "No, I not baby Daniel!" And that was that. He won't let anyone call him Mister Baby anymore.

And really, he's not a baby anymore.

Don't worry, Daniel wasn't in any danger of falling off the couch here. Will doesn't do the best job of holding him up, he mostly just lets Daniel lay across his lap. (That's Will's "I'm done" face, by the way.) It's a good thing Daniel is around to be the baby now.

Wide awake.

Kalena doesn't understand that when people are sleeping you should let them sleep. I think her life motto is: If I'm up, you should be up. It isn't so bad when she's waking up the adults, but she has recently taking to waking her brothers. On purpose. While I think it is adorable that she wants them to be up so she has playmates, it is bad news because these boys need their sleep! She woke Daniel up half an hour into his morning nap today. His morning nap which normally lasts at least 2 hours. I spent the rest of the day trying to get an overtired baby back onto his normal schedule.

Her reason for waking him up? "I just wanted to keep him comfy." That's her four-year-old version of "keep him company." Cute, yes, but maybe let's confine the cute to waking hours from now on, hmm?

A little comparison

When I watch Kalena with Daniel, it's fun to see what a loving big sister she is. And then I remember that she was like that with Will too. Makes my heart happy.

Sweet sunday

I had to take this picture because-- TINY SHOES! I love them. I pretty much don't put my kids in shoes until they're walking, but these were in a box of baby clothes from my sister and I couldn't resist.

Also, I know you can't see it in this picture but his onesie says "Sunday." I put him in it for church and then told Brian that the baby was in his "Sunday clothes." Ahhh, if only I amused everyone as much as I amuse myself.

And this picture is why I started writing this post. How could I not put this on the blog?

I wouldn't deprive you of that kind of sweetness.

Swaddled

Nothing like a tiny new baby to make you realize how gigantic your other kids have gotten. See?

In related news, Aden + Anais swaddle blankets are big enough to swaddle giant toddlers!

Today's conversation

This morning Kalena was looking for some socks (why she was looking I'm not sure, since she knows they're in her dresser) when this conversation happened:

Kalena (in a sing-song voice): Sooocks! Where are you?
Will: Right here!
Kalena: You're not socks, Buster!

And then the whole conversation was repeated word for word. Twice.

Apparently Will thinks he's the only thing Kalena might be looking for.

Easter egg time

We dyed Easter eggs yesterday which the kids thought was thrilling. And by that I mean they thought it was fun dropping eggs in the different colors and then they wanted to eat them all.

Kalena was very careful dipping her eggs.

And pleased with the results.

Will preferred dropping them in- sloshed a lot more egg dye around. (He does look focused though, doesn't he?)

 Happy about it all.

Check out these next two pictures and tell me these kids don't look like siblings.

Same expressions and everything. I couldn't have posed these pictures any better. Fancy dressed up pictures coming next time!

Sibling love

There are like a gazillion things I'm grateful for right now, and maybe I'll get it together enough to make a list of them at some point, but right now I'm just going to post them as I think of them.

Today it's the fact that Kalena and Will are still so young. They don't know that Daniel is any different than any other baby. They aren't old enough to need explanations yet. And even though Will doesn't seem sure about having a baby around, we sometimes catch him standing beside Daniel's crib, watching him sleep. And Kalena? Kalena is just old enough to love him wholeheartedly.

What the kids think about baby #3

You guys, I wish you could see how excited Kalena is for this new baby. She is seriously thrilled. She says good morning and goodnight to him every day; she kisses my belly any time she kisses me; she tells him she wants to meet him soon. It is all just adorable. Also, for a long time she thought she'd be able to see him as my belly got bigger, so she kept lifting up my shirt to look. I explained several times that she wouldn't be able to see him until he was actually BORN, and I think she finally got it.

She likes to point out to me that my belly is getting bigger because the baby is getting bigger. And she understands that I do certain things because I'm pregnant, which I didn't think she would be old enough to get. For instance, she knows I eat certain things (eggs, nuts, etc) because "they're good for the baby" (and my gestational diabetes.) She knows I check my blood sugar to "make sure the baby is okay" (aka, my blood sugar is at a good level.) And last time I went to the doctor she didn't want me to go because she thought it meant something was wrong with the baby. She kept telling me the baby was okay and I didn't need to go to the doctor. She was fine after I explained that the doctor was just checking on him.

She promises that she'll be helpful (she usually is) and that she'll love him (I'm sure she will.) And all this is good because Will? Does not think I'm having a baby. If you point to my belly and say, "What's in there? A baby?" He'll say, "No! DINOSAUR!" Every. Single. Time. I'm hoping the transition won't be too hard on him.

Also, every time Will says that it makes me think of this:

He's going to be disappointed.

That's what happens when you have an older sister

Will wants to be just like Kalena. He wants to go where she goes, and do what she does. And that includes playing dress up. We are woefully short on dress up clothes geared toward boys (although Will does regularly wear his dragon costume) so mostly he dresses in the same kind of things Kalena does.

So if Kalena is wearing a headband? Will wants to wear a headband. (And a crown. Around his waist.)

However, Kalena likes to wear everything at once:

And Will is a "less is more" type of guy:

All he needs is a necklace and purse for his shopping trip. (And footie pajamas, OBVIOUSLY.)

This kid

I'm pretty sure this kid is in for a rude awakening when the new baby gets here.  Kalena is excited.  Will has told me things like, "No baby.  Ucky."  And, "Baby? No baby!"

Too late now kid!
