It's time

Did you know Farmer's Almanac lists best days to potty train children? Well, they do. And this Thursday, April 1st, is one of them. I think Kalena is ready. In fact, I probably would have been better off if I'd just done it when she was super interested, but that whole "about to have a baby" thing sort of distracted me. I suppose "I have a 3 month old baby" could also be an excuse, but I'm not going to use it.

My dad has offered me $100 if I can get her trained (one accident per day, not night trained) in a week. Think I can do it, or is that just crazy talk?

Anyway, I want to hear from you, lovely readers- best potty training tips, tricks, or stories. Spill 'em!

  1. Leah pretty much did it on her own at about 2 1/2 after I babysat her best friend who used the potty like a big girl. I was not ready because Nora was pretty little, but Leah only had a couple accidents total, she still wears a diaper at night. She just recently stopped wearing diapers for nap, but has accidents. We did diapers for long car trips for a short while. Leah learned well by example, does she have potty trained friends who can come over and play?

  2. Have fun with that! Because it's no fun at all... no tips that I can remember except to get the chlorox wipes ready!

  3. Eric stopped having accidents the day he accidentally flushed his poop-filled spiderman underwear. He didn't want to loose any more cool pairs of undies.

I'm really not the person to ask about potty training, I mean you remember Ian, right? My sister-law swears by the how to potty train your kid in a day book. I don't know.

  4. I let Makenna wear big girl undies around when I knew there wasn't a risk of an accident. Then she realized she could only wear her awesome princess undies around all the time if she went on the toilet. I also made her wait when she pooed in her diaper (about 5 minutes) so she would know it was uncomfortable and that if she didn't like it she should go on the potty (Supernanny trick).

We also gave her treats when she went on the toilet to encourage it (I have also heard of the backfiring but it worked for us.) Good luck!
