More Random Stuff

This is only tangentially* vacation related so if you're looking for stories about how awesome Hawaii was, this isn't it. They're still coming.

Whenever I go on vacation I take a book with me. In fact, I generally take two books so that if I'm not in the mood for one I can read the other, or if I get really ambitious and finish one I have another. For our trip to Hawaii though I thought-- Hey, I have a baby so I probably won't have much time to read. I'm just going to take one book. I'd been reading the Shannara series several months ago so I decided to take the next book for the series. I knew I'd read The Sword of Shannara so I picked up the next book and stuck it in my suitcase. And then I got it out the first day we were in Hawaii and realized that I'd already read it. (Here's where having another book would come in handy.) Whoops.

Fortunately Joe (my brother in law) informed me that my sister Kirsta had brought a couple books with her. She had A Prayer for Owen Meany which I had read, and Angela's Ashes which I had not. I opted for Angela's Ashes since I hadn't read it. Wow. Talk about depressing. I kept reading hoping life would get better for them and it just never did. And what made it even worse is that it's true! At lease if it were fiction I could believe that no one had it THAT bad. There are two more books that follow this one, and I am morbidly curious to find out what happens in the rest of his life. I'm just not sure I can handle that depressing a book again. I didn't know what I was getting into! So, if anyone wants to read something really depressing...

I'll post about the vacation soon. I promise.

*Bonus points to anyone who knows what a tangent line is. (Except for anyone who went to Mines. And Brian. I know you guys know.)

  1. a tangent line... when someone goes on a tangent about something. That is my guess... and my comment. I need suggestions for good books. I am about to get on the plane for 14 hours! Help.

  2. tangent line...when a line is drawn touching, but not intersecting a curve.
