More of my amazing sewing skills

You may have noticed that in this post I mentioned that Kalena's Halloween costume is the SECOND thing I've sewn in years. Since I'm sure you were all losing sleep at night wondering what the FIRST thing was, I'll tell you. About 3 days before I made the Halloween costume I made Kalena a tag blanket. First, here's a picture of my lovely sewing machine. I bought it right before Kalena was born but hadn't managed to get it out and actually use it until recently.

Here is the blanket. I looked at a couple patterns online but in the end I just made it up as I went along. If I ever make another one, I'll do some things differently.

And hopefully if I ever make another one, I won't end up with another corner like this one:

(That's just evidence of my non-existent skills.)

I made her the blanket because she always goes right for the tags on toys. She likes the way they feel ...

...and the way they taste.

Mmmmm. Yummy blanket.

Bonus!

As if one post a day isn't enough, today you get two! Aren't you lucky? (Don't answer that.) I'm posting this today because I think these both apply no matter who wins the election.

You can check out more hilarious demotivators at despair.com. Good stuff.

Election Coverage

I don't get it. Alright, that's not entirely true. I understand the desire to check in and see what's going on. What I don't understand is feeling compelled to watch non-stop election coverage. Because really? You watching? Not going to change ANYTHING. Also? Not exciting.

In the 2004 election my roommates insisted we watch election coverage and NOTHING else. As if changing the channel for half an hour to watch a sitcom might change the outcome. Or maybe they thought all the votes from the last several states would magically come in and be counted in the next half hour even though the polls WERE STILL OPEN. I finally gave up trying to convince them otherwise and left. Then I laughed to myself when I turned on the TV the next morning and the election was STILL undecided. Good thing they watched all that coverage.

Anyway, it's election day so if you haven't already, GO VOTE. Watch election coverage or not. Sooner or later we'll find out who the next president will be.

Kalenasaurus

I think babies in costume are adorable. But since I wasn't even sure we would be doing anything on Halloween, I didn't really want to buy a costume for Kalena. I thought about it (because they're just SO cute) and in the end I decided just to make her one. It's not great because a) I'm not a great seamstress, b) this is only the second thing I've sewn in YEARS, and c) combine a with b and you get VERY amateur stuff. Also, since Kalena doesn't have very many sleepers that fit her, I didn't want to permanently turn one of them into a costume, so everything is just pinned to the sleeper. Ghetto, I know. I used pink and purple material from old t-shirts for the hat, spikes, and tail. (Hence the not-quite-matched shades of pink.)

She managed to look cute and stay awake for the whole time we were at trunk-or-treat (an hour and a half past her normal bedtime) and then made it two whole blocks in the car before she fell asleep. Maybe next year she'll get a costume AND some candy. Maybe we'll eat all her candy for her again. You just never know.

100!

This is my 100th post since I started blogging. I know it says 102 on the side, that's because Brian wrote 2 posts. (Apparently I have a lot more to say then he does.) Anyway, I wanted to do a post of 100 things about me for my 100th post, but that's not going to happen. I am sick AGAIN, so I am too out of it to come up with even a short interesting post, let alone 100 things. Where is my immune system these days? It actually seems like the same thing I had last week, maybe I just never fully recovered? Whatever it is, it means my 100 things will have to wait. I'll (maybe) get around to it later this month.

For now I'll just do the tag from Mardi. Here is the sixth picture from my sixth folder:

This is me with my mom standing in front of the Christmas tree last year. I know you can't see my belly, but I was 20 weeks pregnant with Kalena in this picture.

Ummm, I guess that's all for now.

Let's get started

Yesterday morning Kalena learned that it's important to vote! Ok, maybe she didn't learn anything, but she did come with us to early voting. Here we are outside. I wanted a picture inside, but you have to turn off cell phones and that's how we took the picture. If you didn't vote yet, remember to vote on the 4th!

NaBloPoMo here I come

I know I still have one day left on my poll, but considering there are 12 votes for and 0 votes against, I think I'll be signing up. I really thought that at least one person would vote no...although I guess if you didn't want to listen to me ramble all the time you wouldn't read my blog in the first place.

Now, since apparently I'll be blogging every day in November, does anyone have a topic they want to hear me blog about? If not you'll just be subjected to my randomness. (more than usual.) Also, does anyone want to sign up with me?? It'll be fun! (Just ignore what I said before about not having enough stuff to blog about.)

What do you think?

Sooooo....I've been thinking about signing up for NaBloPoMo. For those of you who are too lazy to click on the link, NaBloPoMo stands for National Blog Posting Month. Basically the idea is you sign up and then post on your blog every day for a month. I've been going back and forth about it though. Part of me says-- Hey! That would be fun! and the rest of me says-- Really? You think your life is interesting enough that you could find something to post about EVERY DAY? For 30 days IN A ROW?! And so, indecisive Libra that I am, I thought I would let my lovely readers decide for me. I'm posting a poll on the sidebar so that those of you who are too polite to leave a comment saying "No way, you're way too boring to post every day, in fact, I wish you didn't post as often as you do!" can just vote anonymously. The poll will last until lunch time on Halloween so if the vote is yes I'll have time to sign up before November 1st. Now vote and tell me what you think!

My life is a sing along

I have a knack for picking up song lyrics (and lines from movies and TV shows, but that's a whole different problem.) It must be a family thing because I'm pretty sure all my siblings are the same way. I only have to hear a song a couple of times before I can sing along, and a lot of the time I sing along without even thinking about it.

My problem is that once I start singing along with something I have this compulsive need to finish. I have a hard time changing the station in the middle of singing a song. Even when it's a song I don't like. Yes, it's crazy. There are some songs that when they come on I switch the station during the intro before any lyrics so I don't end up singing the whole thing. But sometimes I get caught. I end up singing along with stuff that I don't want to sing but I can't change the station because apparently I'm just that weird. And this, my friends, is why I could sing you that entire annoying commercial about buckling your kids in seat belts. Maybe I should stop listening to the radio so much.

Noisy

Lately Kalena has decided that just gurgling and cooing noises weren't enough, so she's started making raspberry noises all the time. She will even interrupt herself fussing to do it which makes me laugh. I caught her today on camera. She's not facing me because whenever she sees the camera she just stares at it.

She doesn't start right away, but she's loud once she does. Also, yahoo for my first video posting!
